    Growing in the Between Places

Image Description: A close-up photograph of black tree bark. It has a heavily cranulated texture. Bright yellow lichen covers the tree bark in streaks and spots across the entire image.

There are intricate butresses made of lighter and darker wood that form criss-crossed latices. There are five of them total, with the one at the top of the image being almost directly overhead.

For full poem: https://medium.com/@wdibble/alphabet-soup-7f36e99d698e Image Description: A line of land is visible at the very bottom of the image. The foreground in the left half of photo is dominated by a stylized wind turbine. It appears as a large slender tower with a full circle of turbine blades around the top, forming a nearly complete circle. Fourteen identical wind turbines dot the horizon in the distance behind it, interspersed along the land at the bottom of the photograph. Just to the right of the main turbine are a pair of small birds. The entire foreground is silhouetted. The sky is filled with purple storm clouds that fade to reddish-orange at the horizon. The clouds are blurred with motion across the sky.

  • High Noon

    High Noon

I found the patterns on the side of the Wells Fargo Center in Denver, Colorado, to be absolutely fascinating. The appearances of the building change rapidly throughout the day.

  • Ether

    Ether

H.P. Lovecraft's works postulated that creatures beyond our imagination lived in the vast ether beyond our world. They possessed powers and appearances beyond our comprehension that could drive a person mad. He may not have been wrong.

  • Silent Flight, Sleeping Dawn

    Silent Flight, Sleeping Dawn

I can't help but think of one of my favorite bands when I see this picture. Mono, a post-rock band from Japan, has a song "Silent Flight, Sleeping Dawn". I can't really call it lyrically inspired, though, as the song has no lyrics. Either way, I love this silhouette against the sunrise.

And We Flew Like Silhouettes for Days Past

I frequently relax by listening to post-rock bands. This has a few effects if I do so while working on photography. Photographs worked on tend to take on a more abstract look, and the titles tend to be... Longer. Many bands in post rock have sentence-length song titles. Anyway, I relaly felt like one was fitting for this photograph. Despite being clearly a nature photograph of birds, it has a very distinct appeal.

    Land of the Free

This came from walking around downtown. I found this on an old, rusting metal door. The sticker was on the door, and wasn't "photoshopped" into the image. I really liked the way it all fit together, so snapped a shot.

    Solus

This simple composition is one of my favorite photographs that I've taken. I shot this with a Canon EOS 20D that has been converted to infrared photography. With an absolute minimum in detail and contrast around the majority of the picture, the single post with its details and contrast stand out at sharp attention, along with the small reflection it generates. I absolutely adore this composition. Awards and Recognition: Apollo Medical Center Gallery - April 2015 - October 2015

  • Path

    Path

I'd never seen nor heard of Americasmart before this month. I had the chance to visit Atlanta, Georgia, for the first time ever, and the sides of one of the buildings caught my eye as we passed by. I really liked the stair cases going up each corner, but the real interesting sight was what they looked like from below. To me, it looked like a path to a particularly strange path to a unique structure. I really liked the way the stair path took on the look of shadows instead of gaps.

    Atlanta³

I couldn't quite get the angle on this building I wanted. I had several lenses on me to choose from, but none could get the width to photograph this building from up close. Later, on a Ferris Wheel, I noticed I had the angle I wanted. Equipped only with a Canon Rebel T5i and a Canon 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens, I had to shoot through a hazy plastic window with dimming light. Even so, I managed to catch this building at an angle that perfectly mirrored my vision for it.
