I traveled to Nashville last year on a trip with a friend. When I went again this year, I discovered that Music Row is not the bright, neon crowds of Broadway, but far away. Broadway is just Nashville's tourist row, and it is good at what it does. Attracting hundreds of thousands on New Years and the preceding night, it was like one giant, ongoing party. The colors stretch all the way down the street with tourists, people seeking to sell newspapers and goods, and everyone else in the city.
Sometimes, I look at something, and think, "Gee, that's really nice. But what if it were turned sideways?" That's how this picture came to be. There's this statue of a Highway Patrolman out in Clayton, NC, at the police department. On the outside of the building, it's a sculpted 3D statue about 10' high. On the inside, they left it as carved-out negative space. I saw this, and lay on my back to see the above version of the statue. I love how it became a deep canyon with a simple angle change. Another shot of the monument at Veterans Freedom Park. At night, you realize each of the little platforms features a light with a very distinctive pattern. The path up to it, the lights, the shape. Everything gives your eye something to follow, even though at night, it all leads to an empty sky.
