I captured this amazing animal at the Carolina Tiger Rescue. Jellybean is an older white tiger. White tigers are one of the most inbred species on the entire planet. Almost all specimens have origins from one single male. This makes them extremely susceptible to genetic defects. Jellybean held a regal calm that made me think of Gandalf as she watched us back from her large area. While you can see a cage in the image, she, and their other big cats, have a lot of room to move around in. I don't think I've ever seen tigers this close before, and she was well worth the drive out to Pittsboro, NC.
I would like to add that since I captured this, Jelly Bean has passed away of heart failure.
