Determination

I am a huge fan of birds and prey. Depending on the day, I'll either name raptors or owls as my favorites. I volunteered for a fundraising event for Umstead park, and the American Wildlife Refuge/Raleigh Raptor Refuge was there with two owls. There was a smaller adult screech owl named Speedy, who was hit by a car and suffered a broken wing. This was Miss Virginia, a Great Horned Owl. She was also hit by a car when she was younger, and her foot never recovered. This didn't stop her from giving the stink eye to the dogs around the place, or from being absolutely gorgeous. She was a great model, tolerating both my 50mm lens and my 60mm macro shots. This has to easily be one of my favorite bird photographs I've ever taken. If you get the chance, check out AWRefuge! They're a great group!
