I love photographing the creeks at Umstead State Park. I wanted to do some longer exposures with my friend Vivek, so we began hiking down. We got about halfway to the river when dark clouds began rolling in. It was quickly as dark as late evening, and it began pouring rain. After sprinting back to a shelter to wait for it to let up, I saw this on a fence at the edge of the shelter. I captured this with a tripod, Canon T5i, and a 60mm macro lens.
I had just discovered the concept of "freelensing", and showed up about an hour for a shoot with a local band (Seven Letter), as is my custom. I always show up super early so I can futz around and experiment with the environment I'll be working with. I captured this by turning my 18-55mm lens backwards, tilting it, and taking a picture of a tiny flower. Something about it is very wedding-like, I've been told over and over. It certainly is ambient, at least.
I took a winter exploration of the Prairie Ridge Ecostation a few miles away one morning. While the trip was an overall disappointment, I did find patches of morning dew, and a few of these were all but screaming "TAKE MY PICTURE!" I obliged them with my little 60mm lens and some wet knees.
